I have been painting and drawing since childhood, but have focused in recent years mainly on painting landscape, still life and the figure. My interest is to paint directly from life, be it outdoors in the landscape, on city streets or in my studio.
In painting “en plein air” I’m inspired by the play of light and shadow on shapes and colors and drawn to the juxtaposition of architectural forms against the organic shapes of the landscape. I’m also inspired by the evocative images painting outdoors often presents. My passion is to communicate and share the beauty and magic that we are all surrounded by.
I’ve been trained as an artist at a number of schools, including The Art Students League in New York City and City College in San Francisco. In recent years I’ve studied “plein air” landscape painting with some of the best regional painters in the field.
I live in San Francisco and have a studio at Hunters Point Shipyard. Currently I give workshops in both plein air landscape and studio still life painting.
I show my work at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery and at STUDIO Gallery in San Francisco and I participate in various painting shows throughout the area. My paintings and information about shows and workshops can be seen on my web site: www.brucekatzstudio.com and my work can be followed on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/brucekatzstudio
