The gallery is a riot of color! It’s been two years since Rab Terry‘s last solo show, and he’s expanded the palette of his Venetian plaster paintings. Although the pieces are abstract, Rab takes the natural world as his inspiration. Many of these pieces were completed during our especially wet winter and lush spring, and the paintings reflect this in impressions of water, clouds and a profusion of greens, oranges and pinks. You can see the show online here.
Each painting consists of layers and layers of pigmented Venetian plaster on lightweight wood panels. Working in his signature style, Rab scrapes back and sands each layer to reveal depths, patterns and colors; each piece has up to 30 individual layers.
The reception will be on Sunday, June 4th, 4-6 pm, and the artist will be in attendance. If you’re curious about Rab’s technique, he’ll be doing an artist demo on Saturday, June 10th, 4-5 pm. STUDIO Gallery plans to stream his demo live on their Facebook page.
